The little boy is about ten. This is a very famous Jewish song and always brings tears to all Jewish people.

My Yddishe momme
I need her more than ever now
My Yddishe momme
Id like to kiss her wrinkled brow
I long to hold her hand once more
As in days gone by
And ask her to forgive me
For things I did that made her cry

How few were her pleasures
She never cared for fashion styles
Her jewels and her treasures
She found them in her babys smiles
Oh I know that I owe what I am today
To that dear little lady whos gone away
To that wonderful Yddishe momme
momme, momme of mine

In vasser und fayer,
Vollt sie geloffn fahr ihr kind,
Nisht halt’n ihr tayer.
Dos iz geviss der greste Zind.
Oy vie gliklach und raych
Is der Mensch vus hut,
Az a tayere matune geschenkt fun Gott,
Such a wonderful Yddishe momme
momme of mine

Last verse – She would walk through fire and water for her child. Not sure of the rest but it talks about how far a mother would go to save her child.

Sweet! I know that in Turkish and Kurdish as well as in Arabic there are lots of songs that sing of deep love for mom. It’s very cultural from the middle east I think. I had an Iranian student (about 25) who was in class with his mom – they were both beginners of English, and he held her hand on the table during the class. He ADORED her. I know it sounds creepy but it actually was sweet. 🙂
