CENTURY VILLAGE-edited
I thought I would devote this entry to Century Village – my home away from home. Walking to the clubhouse this morning I once again realized just how very very lucky we are to be here. For one thing the weather is much better than up north. We miss all the snow, ice and cold weather.
We have a small condo here. It’s about 1100 square feet. We have two bedroom, a sunroom, a kitchen, two full bathrooms and a living dining room.
We are situated next door to the clubhouse which is the best location. When we need to go to the clubhouse we don’t need our car. We just walk out the elevator and up the hill. Now the clubhouse is the place to be. There are different courses offered. I think the most popular are probably the exercise classes. We have all types including ZUMBA. We have two large rooms filled with gym equipment.
New for this year are paintings from many seniors lining the walls. One of my large ones is hanging too.
There are some language courses……………you can learn, French, English and Hebrew. Not sure about Spanish. There are drumming lessons, clay pottery, art of all kinds, lapidary. There are all sorts of clubs from photography to stained glass. This year I joined the craft exchange club.
We have a wonderful library with both French and English books. They sell the older books for a dollar and sometimes 50 cents even for hardcovers. They have books in large print.
Several times a week they show free movies. There is entertainment other nights but for these there is a charge between seven and ten dollars. At night there are also lots of people playing cards – bridge, canasta and of course large round tables of people playing POKER.
There are many pools in the village. Most are heated. In the afternoon many people come to the pool – not to swim!!!!! They come to play cards, to play Mah Jongg and of course to talk. Much of the conversation is centered around where they are going to eat or where they went to eat. Of course we also talk about the shows we have seen or planning to go see. We also talk about the weather back home and of course grandchildren!
There is a walking path around the village and in the morning there are many seniors going on their daily walk. As early as six seniors are walking! Seniors here are determined to stay in shape.
We have a bus system which takes you throughout the village. Other buses take you to the main shopping areas.
We are missing nothing here.
It is a wonderful place for seniors to be.
I think one of the most fun and exciting things is that MANY people who knew each other as children have become reacquainted here at CV. There are people here from Toronto and Ottawa also. So if your friends did move away from Montreal you can usually meet up with them here in the winter. WONDERFUL! Every year I meet up with friends that I grew up with. Our parents were married the same day and were friends forever.
So that’s Century Village. There is probably a lot more I can tell you. Actually you can look up Century Village in Deerfield and you can see what goes on here.
Time for lunch and then a visit to the pool to do my needlepoint.
Sounds like a wonderful place. Thanks for describing it..I have wondered what it was like.
