A WONDERFUL MEMORIAL – OK

Late this afternoon I attended a memorial service for my friend’s cousin. My friend is still back home in Montreal. Her cousin lived here and after struggling many years with a breathing problem she passed away. My friend was unable to come because her mother was in the hospital. My poor friend has had a rough few weeks.
Anyhow at five o’clock today we attended a memorial service. I love it and will tell my children that I would like the same thing. First of all she was cremated. When we entered the large room there were tables and chairs. On each table there was a piece of artwork that the deceased person had created. In front of each piece there was a note telling us that we could help ourselves to any of the pieces that we wanted. I immediately called my friend to ask her what I should get. I took a charcoal picture of a young child for her.
Friends stood up when they wanted and talked about the deceased. Food was served and that was it. I love the idea that there was no regular service which is impersonal as far as I am concerned. I will tell my children what I would like even though I will not be cremated. I love the idea of friends coming to celebrate my life and taking home some of my artwork that they like.
Tomorrow I will hang up my Hanukah decorations.
Friday I will  make the loot bags. I bought back rests for everyone. I bought them at the Dollar store and they are excellent. Look them up. I will also prepare desert in small glasses etc.
Now it’s time for bed. Take care and hopefully things will slow down so I can read your entries. I miss knowing what is happening in my friend’s lives.

That sounds like a neat way to remember somebody. How thoughtful, to give away her art!

Have been to a ceremony like that. It is awesome. There was just a small speech from a priest there and there were photographs of “LIFE” –of the person, picturing the person at picnics, celebrations etc. and all sorts of wonderful events. Seeing the person alive in those pictures -this was a good memory, and the last memory of those that attended the wake/funeral at the cremation memorial. <br> Personally, I have mixed feelings about cremation. Seems like the way to go, yet have not investigated what the Bible feels about cremation -whether it is the thing to do or not. Anyone done this research ? Have any ideas about it?

I left that note about the cremation ceremony.
