SHABBAT DINNER IN TORONTO – OK

We arrived in Toronto about two o’clock yesterday afternoon. Hubby drove and I slept the whole way. I hadn’t slept too well the night before. When we got here we went to COSTCO for lunch. I hardly ever go there so I was surprised by the stuff they had. There is a new game for the DS which I will get my grandchildren. I also saw some books I would like to buy.  Then we came to the motel to relax. At night we went to my nephew’s for supper. He has always been my favourite. He has a wonderful wife and four amazing children. My niece has always been a tough mother and her kids turned out great. Two girls 17 and 15 are gorgeous! Then there are two boys twelve and ten. My other niece came with her three children. Finally my sister and her hubby were also there. I love her but she just talks tooooooo much,. It’s hard to get a word in edgewise.
They are a "religious" family so do the prayers before supper. My nephew also read from a BOOK OF JEWISH VALUES. It was about a sirene. What do you think about when you hear a sirene? Do you just want the noise to stop or do you think about the person who is sick and needs help? Do you offer a prayer for the sick person?
Anyhow we stayed until after 11. I always love being with family especially that one. This morning we are going for breakfast with my SIL and her hubby.
My son is here with his girlfriend. They came last night. I think it was good exposure for my son and his girlfriend. Not sure what they are doing today. They will come for supper tonight. They leave in the morning.
This afternoon I will spend some alone time with my sister.
Tomorrow I will visit with cousins but we have no definite plans yet.
Better get showered and start the day. More later.

Actually, I do try to say a prayer when I hear sirens or pass an accident or ambulance. I figure it can’t hurt, right? For a while I was also saying a short prayer whenever I gave anyone money or paid for anything. Just a short prayer to bless the person recieving it and dedicate that money for a good use. (It’s wierd, I know, but there’s so much negativity I figuredit was a small positive thing.)

I always think: this is someone’s heartbreak.

When I hear a siren I always think about the many times I’ve had to call 911 and I hope that they can quickly help whoever is in need and that everyone will pull over and get out of the way so they can get there fast.

Wow — what a wonderful family time! So nice to hear about them all and how you enjoy them.

I hate to hear sirens – I am like Lily, thinking about some poor person in pain and needing help. It is so nice to live in a little town where sirens are almost never heard. Of course, there are still an equal percentage of crises.

It sounds like you are having a wonderful time! And what an interesting topic to introduce…how did that come about from your nephew reading from the Book of Jewish Values? Was it a topic proposed before dinner? I hope your journey home is pleasant 🙂

That’s an interesting thought about the sirens. I’ve never ever thought to pray for the person who the sirens are on their way to. A great idea… thanks! Your nieces and nephews sound like they have lovely families.

sounds like a wonderful family Shabbat, just as it should be. When I hear a siren I always get a bit choked up and a knot in my stomach, as for me it signals someone somewhere is in serious difficulties. hugs P

I thought you didn’t pray? Or am I mistaken. I thought you said you didn’t worship God anymore.
