HERE AT GINGERS – OK

I stayed home Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday my friend came over and we worked on some eggs. I completed at least two. I work so fast. I was telling my friend that we need to start doing something else. We might start to make memory blankets. I just need to buy photo transfer paper.
I have been sorting through old pictures still. I am almost finished. I am going to start working on a scrapbook for my daughter. I was going to make one for my son but I think my daughter will appreciate it more.
Tomorrow I have messages to do and then I am picking up my grandson and his mother to take them to the airport In Plattsburgh, New York. They are going to visit her father in Florida. I don’t know if I should have offered to take them. I think I am getting to close to her and after all she is my son’s ex. My son’s girlfriend has been complaining that his ex is nasty to him in front of my grandson. I never see any of this but I guess I have to believe her. We go to Plattsburgh tomorrow anyhow so I didn’t see the harm.
In the morning I will get gas, go out for breakfast and then I have to buy some meat for the weekend. I also have to stop and pick up some tickets for Elie Wiesel. He will be talking here on September 2. He is a Holocaust survivor and has writte some books. It’s free so thought I should go listen. Hubby isn’t interested so I’m going with friends.
Nothing special in the country this weekend. Some friends won’t be there. I am thinking of taking my sewing machine as I am working on a quilt. It’s almost finished. I just have to decide on the back. I have some fabric but have to decide how I am going to cut it. It will be a gift for my daughter’s friend who is pregnant and due in January.
Yesterday they started to use photo radar at certain traffic lights. They say it’s for safety but probably more a money grab.
So I better get back to bed.

i think photo radar is set up so they can make more money in tickets and fines. if they want safety, put a policeman there with a radar gun. that will slow people down real fast!! take care,

I’d love to see Elie Wiesel – he’s a fascinating man! I’ve seen some remarkable memory quilts. You were talking about printing photos onto fabric to make the memory blankets, right? Or did I read into that? You can make your own printable fabric, and the end result is that the fabric isn’t as stiff as the purchased photo transfer fabric sheets. If you’re interested in how to do it, let me know.

RYN re photo radar: They’ve had it at multiple intersections here in Albuquerque for several years, and although there are those who say that it is unconstitutional for all sorts of reasons, the bottom line is that it is working. The number of intersection accidents has dropped, although there are still those who believe that the road is theirs and they can do what they want to do. The funniestthing is that one of our state legislators got caught by a red-light camera! My former boss got caught at the same intersection twice–for not coming to a complete stop before making his right turn. He paid the first two fines, but when he got the third one, he got real righteous—and he’s changed his driving habits. I guess I’m one of the safer drivers, and hubby too. Neither of us has gotten. Be well.

We have a few lights here that have photo radar and sure enough I got nailed at one to the tune of $100 so be careful!

My Greatgrandmother made the last patchwork quilt she ever did for my son when he was born… It has all the fancy overstitching on the seams of the “patches”… I gave it to him a few years back, and it’s now hanging on a wall in his bedroom. Quilts are cool!!!!!

ryn: To make printable fabric sheets… I use a product called “bubble jet set” which is actually formaldihyde. 1) Pour about 2 inches into the bottom of a small pan. 2) Soak your prepared fabric in the solution until it’s well saturated. (I use plain white cotton, or one that has very little pattern on it and wash/dry it first. I will also do a fat quarter and save what I don’t use for another time. If you’re doing a bunch of pictures, you may want to do a meter or so.) 3) Wring out as much solution as possible. Pour the remaining solution back into the bottle – it can be reused. 4) Dry the fabric, either by hanging over a line or ironing until dry. 5) Lightly spray the back of the fabric with 505 and smooth it onto a sheet of paper. I test print the picture or label on a sheet of paper first. To save fabric, I will cut to fit plus about an inch surrounding. If the label works out to 4 x 5 inches, I will adhere a piece of fabric 5 x 6 to the area where the picture will print. 6) Put your prepared fabric sheet into your printer and print! 7) Gently peel the fabric from the paper.

8) If you are sewing the printed fabric into a quilt, wash it first to get the glue off. If you are using it as a label, the glue works great for folding over the edges. It will also stick to the back of the quilt a bit so you don’t need to worry about pins. A note about printers… make sure you know how the printer pulls the paper out of the tray to print on it. Do you need to feed thepaper in face up? Face down? What is the top of the page – is it the far end of the paper tray? Or is it towards you? I take a blank piece of paper and write TOP in big letters on the top of the page. Then I put it into the printer tray, and print a test page. If my written word TOP doesn’t appear at the top of the printed page, I try again until I know how to put the paper into the tray. Have fun. It’s actually quite easy, so don’t be intimidated. 🙂
