WHAT WOULD YOU DO? – ok
Next week I am going to Toronto. I met two women online through Yahoo groups who also do three d art or Paper Tole. We are planning to meet. One wants us to meet at her house. Do I go? How do I know if it is safe? I will probably speak to at least one on the phone to make arrangements. Would it be wiser to meet first in a public place and even if we do how do I know what/who is at her home? Am I being too paranoid?
I’d just let people know where I was going and keep the cell phone on you. They could be really nice women. Make sure someone has the phone #’s and address of where you’ll be. I’d go for it but that’s just me 🙂

I’ve met a number of people I’ve befriend online, in person and never had a problem, but for the paranoid, here’re some tips: 1) Go with a friend. 2) Meet in a public place, such as a restraunt. 3)Let other people know where you’re going, and the relevant information of whom you’re meeting.

My guess is that serial killers do not masquerade as craft-making women in online groups. Seriously. I have met online friends at their homes before. Most people who end up getting hurt by people they meet online, have met them in some kind of sexual scenario, not through discussion groups or craft-oriented groups. Honest! I hope you have a really enjoyable trip! hugs, Weesprite

You have some good advice from other noters here. Above all, I’d say, make sure someone knows exactly where you are going to be, and have your cell phone with you. If you think it might be dreadfully boring (as opposed to dangerous) you could make up another appointment for a few hours later, or ask someone to phone you giving you an excuse to escape.

All good advice. Have fun, you wild thing!!

You should have their phone numbers, addresses and email address and work contact numbers, if applicable. These should be checked as being valid (eg. are they in the phone book?)
