A WONDERFUL EVENING-read
This evening my children were all here for supper. All three of them and we spent a quiet evening sitting around and talking. I guess I will make supper every Friday until I am too old or until one of my children decide to take over.
My mother started the Friday night suppers when we were very young. I have such wonderful memories of past Friday night suppers. Everyone in the family knew that they were welcome any Friday. So some Fridays we could have up to thirty people including many children. My mother served in shifts as people arrived. We usually stayed quite late and had a lot of fun together.
She made these suppers for many years until she couldn’t afford it and I took over. It also became too hard for her.
So for awhile I made suppers but we were never too many because most of my family moved away. It just wasn’t the same. I stopped making supper Friday nights. I just got tired of all the work. I also was angry because my children who were then younger and living at home made such a fuss if they had to carry some leftovers downstairs.
But since I have come home from Florida I realize just how important these Fridays are. Next week is my daughter’s birthday so I will make supper and invite J’s mother and maybe my nephew and his wife.
My daughter-in-law came into the kitchen to "bond." We are both so shy! I will have to make it my business to get closer to here because I think she would like it and so would I.
I made a yummy supper: chopped liver, salad, chicken soup, roast beef and roast potatoes—everything was very good.
I am not sure why but I am happy to make these suppers. Maybe just maybe the trip to Florida gave me the rest I needed.
Also I wanted to be so careful that I didn’t become an interfering mother-in-law. I realize now that there is a happy medium and the kids even though they are married need contact, and advice.
Another part might have been because my son married a girl who was from another religion.
Anyhow I am over all that and will now work on our relationship!!!!
