Never Ending Summer

Our summer keeps drifting along. I think we’ve had several straight days of 80+ degree temperatures – we haven’t had a streak like this in Minnesota during the month of October for over 50 years!

I’m not complaining, but we could use a couple days of good soaking rain. We haven’t had any rain for a long time. It’s very dry.

I’m out of sync. I want to have the heat on, wear flannel PJs, and snuggle under flannel sheets. Instead I’m wearing shorts and flip flops, working up a sweat while walking in the sun, and crave lemonade rather than apple cider.

Joe and I are perpetually grilling. I want to make soups and chili and bread, not grill burgers, brats, and chicken.

Susan and I took Ashlin and his friend, Joe, to the apple orchard yesterday. Quincy didn’t want to come along. He wanted to hang out with his friend instead (Joe’s brother, Will – nice that brothers are best friends with brothers).

I’ve been taking Quincy to the apple orchard since he was one and a half years old. Ray and I kept him strapped in the stroller the first time, because we didn’t want him to tear down the store! Oh, he was such a naughty baby! And now, just in a blink of an eye, he’s 12 years old and wants to hang out with his friends instead of coming with his old grandma to the apple orchard.

Well, I knew it was coming, but it’s sad when it does come.

I ordered the iPhone 4S on Friday and I should have it by the 14th! I can’t wait! I have a BlackBerry, which I do like, but I’ve wanted an iPhone forever.

Joe and I, guess what? We grilled last night.

I went to workout this morning and forgot my iPod. I managed to workout without music, but it’s hard. I really depend on a song’s rhythm to move myself faster.

I bought new cookware on Friday and Joe was the one who broke the pans in. He cooked breakfast for us this morning. Even though it’s October, it’s nice to have the windows open with a summer-like breeze wafting through the kitchen, although we should be shivering in our bathrobes and trying to warm up drinking multiple cups of coffee. Out of sync.

I went to the cemetery this afternoon.

Then I mowed the first round of leaves. We have lots of leaves left on the trees, but I’ll gradually mulch them until the very end, like early November, when I’ll do a final raking and haul them to the compost.

I’m watering the front and back yards. I can hear the trees, grass, plants, and bushes saying, “Thank you.”

Asher and I are going to have dinner (at a restaurant!) by ourselves tonight. Cool.

Our endless summer is supposed to end later this week. Then I’ll be back in sync.

I am so out of sync with this weather, too! I broke out all my sweaters and now I’m disappointed I can’t wear them. RYN: Yep, I also despise listening to other people’s party noises. My friend warned his neighbors and gave them several contact phone numbers which they never used.

I’m lapping up these wonderful temperatures. They are so sweet in October! It is our Thanksgiving tomorrow… yesterday our family had our get-together and it was so gorgeous. I’ll enjoy the crisp days coming up too though! 🙂 You’re gonna LOVVVVVE your iPhone. It’s a dreeeam.

Lots of nice weather here too…but hot soups and fires and snuggling also sounds wonderful.

Apple orchards are a big part of my ‘cities’ kids’ fall too.

I agree with that out of sync feeling. My friend Sue and I were talking about it yesterday. It’s not supposed to be this warm for this long a time in October! I’m ready for a couple of rainy days-we need rain here too.

Our summer lingered, but the rains showed up last week. I was glad to see it come, since I am not a fan of summer.

Extraordinary blue sky in those shots. I’m finally wearing thermals to bed, which probably means my blood is getting thin. We’ve gotten intermittent showers these past few days — nothing like the deluge being dropped on the Atlantic coast.

It is very fall here. We have such long, long winters, I am happy every day that it doesn’t snow.

Must be nice to have Iphone AS. Enjoy your fall.

How do you like your iPhone 4S over the Blackberry. I’ve had a Blackberry for years and have been contemplating switching over to the iPhone 4S…just been dragging my feet.
