A Straw Poll

It’s amazing that a straw poll in a small Iowa town can have such an influence on the presidential race. This silly little straw poll shows that this whole president thing is out of control.

Like a lot of things in this country. Stock market, economy, jobs, budgets, deficits, and the list goes on and on.

I still have that 401k check on my desk waiting for the market to settle down.

This year’s mammogram result was NORMAL. My mother had breast cancer, so I make sure to get an annual mammogram. I’ve had 21 years of mammograms – all normal.

Yesterday, Susan, boys, and I drove to Moose Lake State Park, located just south of Duluth. The park has an agate center, which we toured. The center had beautiful agates, but did not sell any.

We fished for a while. The boys do not touch the bait (minnows, night crawlers, and worms) or fish.

The younger thought it was “disturbing” that live minnows were in a plastic bag in my trunk. I guess he thought that the minnows might take over the car or something.

We didn’t catch anything, but the boys got a few good casts in.

Then we had a picnic lunch at the park.

It started raining hard, so we decided to drive to Duluth.

It was beautiful in Duluth. We went to Canal Park, which is located at the entrance of the harbor. It’s a tourist mecca.

We saw sailboats waiting for the Lift Bridge to lift up to let them into the harbor.

Then we saw a massive ship coming into the harbor. Very cool.

The boys looked for agates and then we sat in the sun and devoured ice cream cones.

We had dinner at Tobie’s in Hinckley, MN and then drove home.

It was a great day.

And a straw poll wasn’t necessary.

It’s just a weeding/fundraising tool, IMO. Weeding because Pawlenty dropped because he’s out of money & placed a poor 3rd. Fundraising because it’s costs $50 to VOTE in the damn thing. A friend of mine, who’s die hard Republican noted he left Ames early yesterday because there were way too many wackadoos for his taste…and knowing how hard Right he is, that’s saying something.

Ooh I love Duluth. That’s a long drive for you guys, though. I have many memories of going to Duluth as a kid, and always stopping in Hinckley for fast food. When I was older my family ate at Tobie’s once.. had to try the cinnamon rolls!

PS-Congratulations on the clear mammogram. I’ve got 10 years as a survivor!

The park sounds perfect. Congrats on the mammogram!RYN: We have a PPO and get to pick our own doctors, and all that crap still happens. I just read this food for thought that a friend posted:http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2011/08/14/some-medical-tests-procedures-do-more-harm-than-good.html

The Harbour is beautiful. I don’t know what a straw poll is but I would agree that what is happening in America. It is very strange to watch from Canadian news perspective.

You are so strong and so grounded. I love reading your diary. My life is so sorry and insubstantial in comparison
