The Deathly Hallows
When I was about my grandsons age, like 10, 11 or 12, I stayed a week or so with my grandparents during summers.
They lived in a lake, so there was a lot to do. I could fish, swim, waterski, or go for a ride in the boat.
I also spent a lot of time reading, because they limited TV time to evenings only.
I had to help with the laundry, dishes, and cleaning. I had to make my bed.
They also dragged me around to visit relatives that seemed older than dirt and I could care less about. Now I wish I could remember who they were.
I asked my younger grandson (hes 10) on what age seemed old to him. He said 21. 21 seems like a baby to me.
I had my grandsons spend the night in order for us to watch the Deathly Hallows Part 1, so were all set for Deathly Hallows Part 2 when it comes out in the theater next week.
The older one didnt watch it at all. He spent his time paying online games on my laptop while talking on the phone with one of his friends. Hes 12; a pre-teen in the making.
The younger one watched the movie with me and then he joined his brother playing games on their laptop.
I went to bed and I guess they stayed up until 3:00 am! The older one is a night person, always was and always will be, and the younger one is a day person, but was probably induced to stay up with his brother to provide him company during the wee hours.
My grandmother couldnt go to sleep until everyone was in bed, so she would pace and nag us if we were up late watching TV until we finally gave in and went to sleep.
I got up at 7:00 am and began my chores. Their dad came to pick them up at 10:00 am and they were still sleeping.
But they got up OK.
If Im not back at work by then, were planning to go to the Minnesota Zoo on Tuesday. A judge determined the Zoo could remain open during the shutdown, as it doesnt depend too much on state funding.
Its warm and muggy today, but the clouds are rolling overheard, so I dont feel like going to the beach. I have the air conditioning on, so the house feels very comfortable.
I went to check up on Joe. He had an antibiotic refilled yesterday for his eye and it seems less swollen today.
He didnt spend a lot of time rubbing his head, but I can tell he is still uncomfortable.
I went to the cemetery.
Then I bought my animals some food.
Im going over to Joes later on to hang out for a while. Sometimes I can lure him over to my house, but I can tell hes in a mood to hang around his own home today.
I re-read the last chapter this morning in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows so I could remember how the book ends. Its been two years since I read the book and darn, if I could remember anything when we were watching the movie last night. So a little refresher was in order.
And thats my Saturday.
Those flowers look spectacular – so bold! Questions: So vets are all buried in the veteran’s graveyard? Do some ever not want to be? So wives of vets are generally never laid to rest next to their husbands, is that right? Just wondering about that… Poor Joe… he’s been uncomfortable for a long time now!

Love the perspectives of the different ages. I also need refresher courses on books, even those I remember loving. Sometimes that’s all I remember, much to my chagrin.I hope Joe feels better. It has been a long time.Beautiful flowers and photo.

Great entry title!

Sounds like the same observations my Mom makes about her grandkids. They are so “plugged in” that it’s sometimes tough to get them to just PLAY!

You are a much more mellow grandmother to your grandsons. The Princess gets to go to an early screening of Deathly Hallows.

Those flowers are so pretty. Hoping you’re able to go back to work soon..if you’re not already back.

RYN: I have a fairly large screen but I have to scroll to see all the words on the screen.

ryn: Right now I’d love something with sugar in it…dark chocolate, for example. Overall I have more energy than I did when I was on Atkins which restricted carbohydrates even more. I’ll persevere.
