Another Ride Out

Hello again.
Not a great deal to tell you all. Work is still as crazy as ever with a couple more studies coming on board which means its getting even more hectic, which is all good really.
The weather has been getting better which means I have been using the bike more. We have been promised a return to crap weather this week, which is pretty usual as we come up to a bank holiday weekend!   We had the first big charity run today. It was the Peterborough M/C’s Easter Egg Run , so us TOMCC members joined up with them.   We met up at a pub car park,  about 40 bikes, then took some nice country back roads to Cambridge and Addenbrookes hospital, where we dumped about 100 Easter eggs. A few of the kids came to look at the bikes and some sat on a couple with huge grins on their faces. I guess this sort of nursing can be so fulfilling but I really couldn’t do it. I think I would get too emotional about them.
After about ¾ of an hour there, the 4 of us TOMCC boys decided we would head out and have a little ride of our own. We set off , again through the country roads, heading for a nice little pub to have a refreshing ( non-alcoholic) drink. Kevin, the “road captain” or at least the one who always seems to lead the ride outs, had bought himself a “new-to-him” bike, a 900 Trophy. Apparently he went out on it last weekend and had trouble with at as it would fail to start on occasions. Thing is he hasn’t done anything to it , but came out on it again today ( he also has a Bonneville) and had exactly the same problem. This entailed the rest of us trying to push start it, not an easy task when dressed in leathers, on a warmish day! Hopefully he will be sorting the battery/alternator/starter motor system before the next ride out!
So we carried on for a further ride, culminating in a pretty fast thrash up the motorway back to Peterborough. All in all another 150 miles done. Vicki didn’t come with me this week as she wasn’t  feeling too good.
I enjoy riding out with these guys mostly, but there are a few things that I don’t like. One thing I did learn with riding out with the Harley Owners Group is a good way to ride in convoys. They use a staggered system of riding which I think is a lot safer than the way the TOMCC bikers ride. The TOMCC guys do ride a little quicker which I prefer, they are actually more friendly than most Harley Owners. The H.O.G. had their own Easter Egg run today and I had to ride through their meeting point to get some fuel today. There were some Harleys getting gas too, but not one acknowledged me. I think that is just crass! I have no beef with ANY one who rides two wheels, even when I rode a Harley myself.
Another thing that REALLY p***ed me off today was when we stopped for a drink, myself and another guy had soft drinks, one had a pint of cider and Kevin had 2 pits of Guinness. I really do not agree with riding and drinking. If you intend using any motor vehicle at all then you should not drink , full stop, finito.
Ok, off my soap box for now. Well, that’s about all for now, people, so hope you had a good weekend . Let’s hope the weather is good for next weekend.

Totally agree with you re: drinking alcoholic beverage, any amount and riding/driving a motor vehicle. ZERO tolerance is the catch cry of husband David and myself. Hey, I know Harley riders tend to be up-themselves, they are here in NZ too.We get riders coming over the hill, every weekend cause the Wairarapa has fast, flat, good roads unlike Wellington’s steep, patched up, congested roads. ;D Emmi

everything i’ve ever seen or been in here has followed the staggered pattern. hell, they TEACH it in the licensing book… if i ever pass…

I agree with you about not drinking and driving. I find it kind of funny that bikers get snooty with eachother over the brands of bikes they ride. Sounds like a bunch of women to me. Glad you are enjoying your job! Thats great!

drinking and riding a bike is twice as offensive as drinking and driving a car. glad you had a good ride. i *think* im going to seriously consider riding again this year……maybe lol

I agree with you so much about the drinking/driving issue, no matter what kind of vehicle is used. Our NZ laws are quite tough on that and I would have thought UK was too. Glad you and yours are all ok, but we miss your more regular entries. hugs P

OH that dear old snobs. They just don’t go away, huh? Glad you made the change – that’s intelligence :-)))) Now I will run away very far and fast!!!!

Saw your note at Pelican’s diary. Wondered where “Harley” had gone but recognized your “Hugz” you always left. glad to see you’re still here. Went to London last year and have become a devout Anglophile.

I’m with you on the drinking and motorized anything deal. Glad to see you getting out and about. With a smile…

Good entry. Sad that some never think twice about drinking and driving. Take Care of Yourself.

Don’t you just LOVE to ride 🙂 I can get my beauty tomorrow. She’ll be ready for me then and I’m going to pick her up with my bf. If the weather allows it, we’ll be going for a short ride just to have some fun. Hopefully the weather will be okay. At least no rain. Agreed on the not drinking and driving. My aunt died bc of a stupid drunk driver. Hugz
