So, its Goodnight from me….
…..and it’s goodnight from him” to coin a phrase from one of my favourite comedy shows, The Two Ronnies (Barker and Corbett).
That’s it, it’s over. Five years of Primary care nursing has ended with a whimper , rather than a bang. Don’t know what I was expecting, but I guess I am a little disappointed how it ended. Colleagues on shift with me yesterday morning organised a little party for me with some finger food, which was nice, and they had a collection for me, which again was very nice. I got a good luck card from them, which I noticed was only signed by the people on shift with me again. I found out later that it had been sort of a “last minute” thought. Nice!
Last night I had arranged for people to meet at the Greyhound racing in Peterborough. May sound strange, but there are covered places to sit and watch the racing, and you can get drinks and food there too, and it’s always a good laugh and a sociable evening. We have been there before for a night out. When I put the list up about it, nearly 20 people put their name down to say they were going to attend. In the end only 9 turned up. This was Ok, because it was people I really classed as close colleagues anyway, but I did think I had enough “friendly” colleagues to make it a bit busier. Oh well, that’s the end of it anyway. I will miss the people I worked with (even the ones that didn’t turn up!) because they are a good crew and we made it fun even when it wasn’t. But I will not miss the work at all.
And so, now I am a free man until January 6th, 2010 when I start the new job. I am really excited about it and can’t wait. The first month or so will be very easy indeed. I already have an insight into what I will be doing and there will be plenty of “home-working” needed . I can live with that!
Lee failed his Theory test for the 2nd time last week and was really down for a few days. He booked the test again today and takes it on Monday, so fingers crossed for that. I really hope he does it this time.
“Beauty” is sick at the moment. For a few weeks she has had episodes of coughing and spluttering, then clearing again and being OK. But I was on the way to work last week and she started coughing and spluttering, went on to two cylinders and wouldn’t run properly, so I had to turn round and take the car instead. I haven’t had chance to look at her due to work, but now I have the time I shall be getting my hands dirty once more, doing my own mechanicing. (something I never did with the Harley!) I am hoping it is just muck in the carburettors. I can easily sort that out, but I am worried it might be the coils that are playing up. Once again I can fettle them easily enough, it’s just that they are expensive to replace! I need to get her running before the New Year though as I am hoping to use her to go to work initially because I will have to travel to Cambridge which is around 50 miles away along a really busy road in rush hours, and it would be cheaper fuel wise too!
Well , that’s about all the news for now. I’m sure I’ll do another entry before Xmas but if I don’t I wish all my readers the bestest Christmas possible and loads of fun for New Year.

I have had farewell experiences like that before. One in particular was a job that I was at for 5 1/2 years. I had worked in two different departments and was friendly (or so I thought) with a lot of people from both departments. I invited everyone to happy hour on the Friday I was leaving. Right across the street from the company. Only about a half dozen people showed up. Really. They couldn’t even be bothered to stop in for one drink? So when they called asking me questions about the job, I couldn’t even be bothered to remember what to tell them. Haha. Good luck on the new job and with the bike!

Hi BRN: I have had marriages like that, y’know – ending with a whimper, not a BANG! Hahahaha! Hey c’mon, cheer up, mate! You have a new job to look forward to (in this economical climate.) You’re done with work you disliked, and you found out who your real friends are. All PLUS’s as far as I can see! As for Beauty, I hope she’s OK. Anyway, onward & upward! & I LOVED the two Ronnies.
