Good …and Bad…Again!
Well, isn’t it funny how things can change . Nothing spectacular happened at the beginning of the week.
Wednesday was Lee’s appointment with the Consultant in London. We set off early (0700) to get into X-Ray dept. as soon as possible to avoid the queue and we succeeded , only to have to wait to see the Top Man himself! Oh well. The X-rays were the best I’ve seen so far. Showed that half the bone has healed, but half still seems open, though there is a grey shadowy area that looks like it might be new growth bridging the gap. Top Man (TM) said we’ll arrange to take the pins out if you’re happy. Lee was …very! They said tomorrow under general anaesthetic. Lee said why not try now? He had one taken out last month without any anaesthetic and though it caused a little discomfort, he stood it well and thought he could do the rest. They offered him Entonox (Nitrous Oxide/laughing gas) which he readily accepted as he is addicted to the stuff LOL. However it still proved too painful as the remaining pins were solidly secured in the bone.
So it transpired we had to make the 180 mile round trip all over again the next day, Thursday. This time we had to be there for 0700, which meant leaving at 5 am!!! We managed it Ok though, he had his op about 0900, back in the ward by 1000 and we left again at 1200. I’d managed to get a little more nap in the car while I was waiting! So now he is pin and frame free and was well pleased at being able to wear boxer shorts and normal jeans for the first time in 10 months!!!! By the time we got home he was in a little pain obviously, but after some painkillers was a lot more comfortable, and after a good nights sleep he has been fine today. We changed the dressings today as it had bled overnight, and all the wounds are closing up nicely, with very little bleeding now. Let’s hope this will be the effort the bone needs to finish healing.
Lee got his new car on Monday, and Dawn has been driving it mostly as Lee still has to pass his test. She loves it, obviously. It’s a beautiful car, as all new cars are, but they’re both over the moon about it. Lee has named it “The Beast” as it’s all black! LOL
As for my “new” car. It performed really well over the two days hammering up and down the motorway for 380 miles in 2 days. Then Dawn and I got in it to go out this morning, there was a terrific loud crack and the front nearside ( passenger side) corner dropped. Either the spring or suspension strut has snapped. I called the garage I bought it from straight away and told them to collect it and get it sorted which they said they would. Had to phone them again late this afternoon again as they hadn’t shown up or rang me, and then again at 1900 this evening (they’re open till 19.30) only to be told by “the boss” that the warranty doesn’t cover recovery and I would have to make arrangements to get the car to them. WHY couldn’t they have told me first thing? I could have sorted something out, but TWICE I was told that they were going to get it picked up! Anyway, i have managed to sort something out for early tomorrow morning. Andrew, (SiL) has managed to borrow a trailer and tow car and is coming to pick me and the car up. I am SO looking forward to taking the car in to see “The Boss”!!! The big thing I keep thinking about is what would have happened if the spring had snapped when we were doing 70 mph on the motorway!
Anyway, that’s about all for now, can’t say today has helped my moods much. Still feeling a bit low, but I am sure the pills will pick me up soon.
