Tagged, I’ve been…
I have been tagged by my buddy Holy Smokes, and here’s how it goes!
1) get the book that is right by you, yes, right by your computer, the nearest book to you!
2) open that book to page 123
3) find the fifth sentence
4) post the text of the next four sentences on your diary along with these instructions
5) no cheating allowed, don’t go get that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet, just pick up the closest book to you
6) tag five people
"McCarthy’s Bar" by Pete McCarthy. I was given this little book by my favorite unclefather who with my aunt has traveled to Ireland many times. I promised I would read it…oops
P. 123:
"I found myself envying this outsider who’s now an insider in a place where I desperately want to belong myself, despite the outrageious hours they keep. I was jolted out of my introspection by a seventy-two-year-old woman who stood on a chair and sang ‘The Fields of Athenry’. She was a bit wobbly on her pins, on account of having suffered a stroke the previous week, but it went down well anyway. Everyone followed with songs of their own, except me, because we just don’t carry on like that in England; and this, more than anything else, made me feel like an impostor".

Isn’t it true, we all want to fit in, to be accepted and thought kindly of and have fun!
I tag: Edelweiss, Mags, Oswego, Paula, and Just Catherine
Hugs to all,
Holy smokes, indeed! I don’t usually do tags, but of course it would be silly not to take this on…after all books is me! That is a particularly cogent selection, Ollie. I totally understand that person’s feelings, and the conflict between wanting to fit in (to play) and not feeling able for some internal reason, cultural or dogmatic…it ruins it for everyone sometimes. What a good thing to think about. Ever read Kunzinga’s essay on Play? Fascinating. For me: The nearest book was one I write in, a kind of book of quotes and questions and summaries but alas! it had no more than 90 pages. Under it was a journal. It had 128 pages, so…I’ll use it because it was the one nearest me. Check it out at mags diary.

Hello Sweetie, the quote from you book reminds me of how I felt in Russia when every Russian could sing 6,000 songs, carry a perfect tune, and know all the words. If pushed I could sing Silent Night and Home, Home on the Range — not in tune. I wonder why this culture doesn’t sing. Can you believe it is holly season already? Jeesh. Love to you,

I liked the line ‘we just don’t carry on like that in England’ How true! We are far too reserved for our own good most of the time.

Hello there Ollie! :o) Thanks for visiting my diary. Your right about my wedding. When I first started my diary I wanted to write about what made me the person I am today. I started out on a negative note,it might have been the mood I was in at the time, but as you can tell it didn’t last very long. There is too much good happening today to continue looking back to yesterday, or should I say yesteryear? So instead, for the most I do my best to bring out the possitive of each day that goes by. I love taking pictures, and sharing with everyone. I also love talking about my four kids, my two dogs, and of course my husband. No days are perfect, but my outlook has changed quite a bit. I hope you choose to visit again soon. And your right, Holy Smokes seems like a really nice person. I enjoy reading her diary.
