Contrast

These are two of my favourite poems that I’ve written. They are something of a contrast to my other pieces. I hope you like these because I do.

THE DREAMING ROOM

A room of sweet dreams in black and white,

bright darkness clash with mediocrity,

staring, lifeless, unvarnished eyes,

staring at what only images see.

The serpents tongue in forked derision,

The serpents eyes our sins to see,

The white that fades into the backgroundm

chalkdust dreams swallow mediocrity.

The images, meories in unrequited folly

dance, stationarry, to an unheard beat,

cheerful grins couples mock turtle sorrow,

lifes cold cancour encased in skins fresh heat.

The sweet dreams sway and we forget them,

packed up and taken to another place.

But the room remembers the dearly departed

and dreams caught, pinned ‘neath the lifeless face.

That was written this year. I was in an Art room which was being dismantled after the class had left, and I just thought how bare it would be. The rest becomes obvious.

This second one is also about my thoughts on dying. Kind of a lack of fear, but apprehension.

THE OWL

Out of the darkness it comes it’s claws outstretched in supplication

It’s eyes are the glowing coals on a midnight fire

It’s wings the silent shroud of night

It floats, an apparition from my dreams

and it’s beauty is that of the predator.

I stand, paralysed. It is right this way,

why run? why hide? I accept my fate.

The vision descends from the heavens.

It’s talons surround me, enfold me,

lift me beyond my world.

And I am no more.

There we go. That’s enough of my crap for today. I’ll go back to just rambling now.
