One of Each

After forty two email came bounding into my inbox this beautiful, crisp, Monday morning, that was that. There is more out there in the world than email. It’s G’s birthday for one thing. I want to make the time to leave notes on all my “favorites” in OD, for another more important thing than email.

Oh, I’ve been to read you, but there’s no time to note. Some of you will leave me a note whether I note you or not. Others of you vanish until I remind you I exist. Yes, I am here. Yes, I am busy. You all know busy. Yesterday was busy keeping G happy. 50th birthdays are a bit earth shaking. I think he is a little shook. And he is now aware of his mortality. Poor thing….but his neck is better every day. Thank you.

“What do you want to do today?” I asked him as the rain clouds slowly vanished behind the mountains.

Silence.

“The Zoo?”

“Yes, let’s do that,” he said smiling. And we did.

There are major changes at our zoo. The city has given permission for them to put their parking underground and expand into the land around the Zoo. The carousel will be moved near the art area, and the little train will be closer to the heart of Balboa Park too.

Birthday donuts, walking, potato chips, more walking, bus rides, and shuttle rides brought us home to a chicken noodle casserole and a tossed green salad. After dinner the very stark documentary “Blind Spot: Hitler’s Secretary.” Chilling because of the true feelings of the time are so clearly delineated in this very spare film.

So…….right now I am doing one email then one diary or journal. A forced balance, but one that wins my heart.

Thank you for the note and prayers. Give G a big birthday hug from me and remind him that 50 isn’t fatal! Glad to hear his neck is feeling better. It’s always a treat to get a note from you but I’ll be here whether you note or not! xoxo

I hereby give you a “note pass.” It sounds to me like you are balancing things properly. Good thing you are doing all that walking! Hugs,

Happy Birthday G!! I visited your zoo a few years ago and had a wonderful time. Even though I didn’t get to see the pandas.

That wonderful zoo – my daddy sent postcards of it when I was four – He was Navy (briefly) and loved it.

Georgette, tell G that 50 is just wise enough to know better, and still look good. i should know, i turned 50 in December! gigi
