The Words Of Others

Today in my writing class, Marion E read a poem that just knocked my socks off and froze me in my chair with my mouth open. Sometimes words will do that to me even through my cross wiring. Today especially as I was vulnerable and fragile. Sometimes life will do that to you too.

I am a great fan of Marion’s. I admire the way her mind works. She laughs at me when I say that. I asked her permission to post these words here for me. Selfish of me. I hope you enjoy them too. She said this work took her five years to write.

We Used To Know God

He lived with us
in our warm Christmas house
shuttered in wind spun snow
until madness too Mother
and God away
into freeze-dried forests
of diamonds and moonstones
where she hid inside a chimera’s cave
we called her and called her
by whispering her name
at last she returned wrapped in old winter skins

we dared not ask her where she had been
or why she failed to bring God back with her
we knew she was planning on leaving again.

I see why you are her fan. The way she uses words is simply amazing. They take one with them, into the picture they create. Wow!

Oh, dear. Straight to the heart, those words. Thank you. And Marion.

I can certainly see why you were moved by this poem. It’s beautiful.

Oh, my. . .

This poem brings to my mind not only a clear image of the people involved, but also a profound feeling, which I won’t be able to shake (if I even wanted to) as I begin my day. It quiets my mind amd makes me think. Thank you for sharing it. Susan

Oh my lord, that’s amazing.

Wow… don’t you just love Marion’s work? Thanks for posting her poem. Since I’m taking a sabatical, I miss all the “good stuff.” I’ve always felt that life is orchestrated for us–we just need to slow down and listen to the music of it. There are times when our angels (our friends) offer up to us exactly what we need when we need it. I think Marion did that for you. Hugs, Tehachap
