The Star of India, the last iron hulled sailing ship still afloat, sails in 1984.

This morning, its back to life as we know it here in the wilds of Southern California.

The state capital is readying itself for Arnolds swearing in. The state itself gained jobs and employment, but the experts are saying they are only temporary jobs and will vanish when the various strikes get settled. The stores, as well as Disneyland, are fully decorated for Christmas. Blatant Christmas economics here.

G hasnt told me if he thinks we should add to the economy here at home or in some other town or city. Everyone knows I would rather be there. Id also rather spend some time being thankful than adding to the economy. Both G and I were upset by the Christmas decorations on every surface at Disney resorts.

This morning, we sit wrapped in our robes back to back at our computers. For a brief moment we have calm before rushing out into the chill. Frazier will get his meds, and then we will hie off to Balboa Park and the Historical Society archives. While we shuffle paper, ephemeria, or orts, the Star Of India will be setting sail for an ocean pass of the Point.

Later we will share dinner and adventures with the professors. This month we dine All-American at Rudfords with artery clogging meatloaf, liver and onions, baked chicken and other menu items that need to be faced with humor. The high fat, high sugar, high salt goodnesses will race through our systems while jokes, laughter, stories, and general fun with fill the air around us.

It will be just what we all need to add to our thanksgivings.

I hope that’s wrong about the temporary gain in jobs, but it sure looks grim. A huge refinery shut down in my neck of the woods. It’s good that it won’t be spewing out waste, but it’s bad because 500 jobs are going to be lost.

I keep hearing the economy is improving but things just seem to keep closing and shutting down around here, three of our nicest restaurants all in one fell swoop…On Friday we made reservations for Monday. When we arrived on Monday they were closed. 60 some employees there. 119 at a small mill…no large numbers, but then, we’re not a large community. What’s to do but smile and vote?

thnx for the note re; smoking….playing with the problem you said. boy did that sentence talk to me. loud AND clear.

im not a cutter backer. i had to stop; just stop noexcusesstop. and yes. it feels soooo differently. hubbub says that ‘quitting for me was just finding something else to do…trite, but just move away physically and do something else’…..says that’s why he’s walking more and gymming more. five months without for him now after 28 yrs.
