So let it rain
“The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain.
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
I woke up last night to the sounds of rainfall and soft thunder, and lay awake in the dark just to listen. My little dog was curled up behind my knees; the pillow was soft, blankets warm. Nice. I dont even recall falling asleep again but I must have, since the alarm later woke me with the sound of birds singing.
My drive to work takes me by a river and this morning I noticed how much greener everything is after the rain weve had the last couple of days. Trees are in bloom and new grass is coming up through last years leftovers. It is spring, finally, and I could not be more relieved.
You can take all the pictures of sunshine and green grass that you want, but I will never believe that spring can be shown through the lens of a camera. One has to live through winter with the cold, the snow, the seemingly endless nights, to fully appreciate what spring is; only then does one know that spring really is not something that can be displayed with paper and ink.
Spring is bursting out of the tunnel at full speed, going from darkness directly into broad sunlight.
Spring is moving on from thick layers of clothing to shedding those layers and feeling the warm sun on your face, shoulders, arms.
Spring is so much what Ive needed.
You are absolutely right. All of it.

I miss spring so bad. It’s actually green here for once, and I’ve been enjoying looking at the hills, knowing that they will be scorched and dirt brown by the end of the month.

You’ve captured it perfectly! They were cutting the grass in the park today as I walked to work, and the smell was amazing. I feel like I’m finally starting to wake up after a winter’s hibernation!
