Suffering Succotash

In which our Hero plans a mulligan for his lady

If there’s any day to catch up on Nocturne, it’s got to be on TuesdayValentine’s Day. And where do we stand? Frustrated. She’d been crazy busy in December. And then I was just plain pinned down by my parent’s travels. And now my poor dear girl has the plague.

It’s just one thing after another.

But other than that… we’re adjusting to life post holiday rush. Hopefully we’ll get a break, and one of us can finally go smooch the other of us.

In the meantime, since she was already coming down with her plague on the weekend, I took the liberty of booking a do-over with her later. Because if she’s too sick to enjoy Valentine’s day, then I’m moving the day. Sorry if you had plans, but you can have a bonus day too if you want.

That’s the part for you, Gentle Reader.

To my Sick, Sleepy, Sniffly, Sad, Sweaty, Suppurating Sweetheart,

I gave my love some roses,
but she had no nose to smell them.
I gave my love some chocolates
but her tastebuds could not tell them.

I sang my love a love song
but her ears were clogged and closed.
So I gave my love her medication
And we sat, me quiet, as she dozed.

I booked my love a table
at a fancy restaurant.
Her flu left her unable
past her bedroom to lurch and haunt.

I bought my love a movie
and played it on her screen
But her eyes were closed
and all she saw was her dream.

I tried to lead my love to dance,
but dizzy she already swayed.
so I held her close against me
as the music softly played.

None of this my love could take
as her sight wavered and loop’d
So I tucked her in a warm blanket
And made my love some soup.

Dear Nocturne, be my valentine?
