A letter to an Ex

In which our Hero write a letter to an ex because he has to and a letter to a not-ex because he doesn’t have to be

Dear Ex,

I accidentally wrote a letter to you before I started this project. (I mean, I accidentally preceded the project. The letter was deliberate) Just to get some stuff off my chest. And right now, things feel said, I’ve got nothing new to really say to you, just an exercise on a list. But you know how that curiousity thing works, I mean, you were always very happy to snoop around. And the internet all social these days, so the finding sure is easier.

Looking in on you leaves me just amazed at how little you’ve changed. Same job. You’re married now, which is great. Maybe that will give you the financial stability and responsibility to pay me back the rest that you owe me, but I’m not holding my breath against you developing a conscience.

I hope you’re better to your husband than you were to me.

Bonus Letter:

Dear not-an-ex,

I’ve had women lie to me. I’ve had women steal from me. I’ve had women cheat on me. You did none of those things, but even against exes like those, and you just a fling, you embarrass me. If the sound of your name could be extinguished from the world, that would be really great. Sadly, you didn’t have the decency to have an exotic and unusual name which means that the memory of my own stupidity haunts me.

I was very harsh at the end. I don’t regret that part, you didn’t understand any of the more dignified attempts to end things. I do regret ever getting into the position where I had to end things. Which would be the middle, and the beginning.

I don’t wish you ill. I wish you never.

Not much of a letter in either case. But having already found my closure, I’m just not sure what to say.

At least all the idiocy of my past leaves me uniquely appreciative of my present. Dear Nocturne, I don’t say this enough: I love you.
